Basic Questions
The model behind short drama apps is a simple one. You watch vertical episodes that are tiny. The first few are free. Coins or a pass pay for the later ones. Most of the confusion starts with that split. Begin with the five answers below.
What exactly is a short drama app?
Vertical video built for phones is what it streams. Each series is split into many bite-size episodes. Plots tend to favor billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf romances are also popular. The leaders are ReelShort, DramaBox, reel short drama ShortMax and My Drama. Originally, the format appeared in China as duanju.
How long is each episode?
Most episodes last one to two minutes. Productions in the West often target 60 to 100 seconds. Usually, a series has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort’s listing for Married at First Sight shows 90. The hit Double Life series on ReelShort lists 60. A complete series can be as long as a movie.
Why do episodes cut off at cliffhangers?
Usually, that is where the free episodes run out. The first 5 to 15 are usually free, ReelShort says. 8 to 10 is the figure cited in industry reporting. The lock usually hit at peak suspense. That timing is precisely the business model. It is also a leading viewer complaint.
Who are the owners of ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
The owner of ReelShort is Crazy Maple Studio based in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group stands behind that studio. Running DramaBox is Singapore’s StoryMatrix, which is part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. Making My Drama is Holywater, set up in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment acquired an equity stake in October 2025. In terms of launch dates, ReelShort came in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.
Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?
Yes, but with limits. My Drama offers an Apple TV app. No verified ReelShort TV app turned up in our search. ReelShort’s website accepts Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. You can get free unlocks only in the app.
Pricing
Money questions arise most often. The figures given are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary depending on country, platform and promotion. Before anything else, always check the price screen. Consider every number approximate. Below is what the listings show.
Is ReelShort free to use?
Partly, and the free part is genuinely free. Anyone searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” is after the catch. Opening episodes cost nothing. Downloading is free. Later ones need coins or a VIP pass. Ads and check-ins get you free coins.
How does the coin system work?
Coins serve as the currency that opens episodes. ReelShort’s blog puts an episode at around 60 coins. The smallest pack runs roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bigger packs come with extra coins. You earn 100+ coins with a 7-day check-in streak. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes.
Can coins expire?
The answer depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Coins you paid for do not expire. Things work differently at My Drama. Under its terms, coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Use reward coins first and keep active.
What does a weekly pass cost?
In the US, the common price is about $19.99 a week. ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama list it. A few apps show cheaper plans. GoodShort starts near $5.99, and ShortMax lists $9.99. Every one of these passes renews on its own. Forgetting it for four weeks costs four times as much.
Are there any monthly or yearly plans?
Some apps provide them. A yearly plan is listed on ReelShort’s blog at roughly $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. That figure is therefore unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows about $36.99 a month. In the US, ShortMax shows only weekly passes.
Is it possible to watch without paying?
Yes, if you are patient. To begin, watch each series’ free opening episodes. Rewarded ads unlock more. Keep a daily check-in streak alive. ReelShort also has official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. Combining all four stretches furthest.
Subscriptions and How to Cancel
A weekly pass keeps renewing until you stop it. That surprises plenty of people. Once you know where to go, cancelling is quick. Where you cancel depends on how you paid. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Website purchases are handled by the company.
Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and this is a common mistake. According to Apple, removing an app does not end its subscription. Google states the same thing about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms restate that warning. Until you cancel, the pass keeps renewing. Cancel first, and then delete.
How do I cancel on iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Next, tap your name at the top. After that, select Subscriptions. Choose the drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm your choice. For safety, act a day before the renewal date.
How can I cancel on Android?
Start by opening the Google Play Store app. Open your Subscriptions list. There, select the drama app. Tap Cancel and work through the prompts. Do not forget that uninstalling cancels nothing. Recheck the list to confirm the change.
Can I cancel from inside the app?
Sometimes, but going through the store is safer. ShortMax’s terms point to an in-app option under About Subscription. They point store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. If you bought on the website, contact the company. Keep a screenshot of every cancellation.
Why was I charged after a free trial?
The way trials are worded can confuse. ShortMax’s developer acknowledges its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people. Passes renew 24 hours before expiry, according to its terms. The renewal comes at the same price. Cancel a day before any trial ends. After that, confirm the store shows it cancelled.
Refunds and Money Back
How refunds work depends on who took your money. Play charges are handled by Google. Apple handles App Store charges. The companies handle their own website charges. None of these routes guarantees a refund. This table shows every path.
| Where you bought | Cancelling | Where to seek a refund | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Deleting the app does not cancel it |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, later the developer | Uninstalling does not cancel it |
| Website | Your account or support at the app company | The app company only | Frequently non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms |
How can I get an Apple refund?
Apple’s Report a Problem page is the place to go. Use the billed Apple ID to log in. Select the charge and give a brief explanation. A reply from Apple usually comes within 24 to 48 hours. It is Apple that decides, not the app developer. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How do Google Play refunds work?
Here, timing matters most. Within 48 hours of purchase, Google says you may get a refund. Send the request directly through Google Play. After that window, get in touch with the developer. ReelShort sends users to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast when a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about buying on the website?
The app company handles those. Apple and Google cannot step in there. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, according to My Drama’s terms. Under its terms, EU and UK users have a 14-day withdrawal right. Other companies set their own rules. Read the terms before paying online.
Can I refund unused coins?
Usually not, and the terms make that clear. My Drama’s terms treat coin purchases as final. Unless its own fault makes a product unusable, ShortMax refuses refunds. For accidental buys, store requests may help. Buy the smallest pack until a series grabs you. Mistakes then cost less.
Look-Alike Apps and Safety

Here, name confusion is everywhere. Misspellings land you on minor unrelated apps. Some sites imitate well-known brands. A few downloads are unsafe. Using the real names protects your money. These answers separate real from fake.
Is Real Short an actual app?
No, not as far as we could find. ReelShort is the correct spelling, and Real Short is a misspelling of it. The same goes for “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The real name is a single word. The seller shown on the App Store is New Leaf Publishing. Check that before you download.
What exactly are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
These are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, reached via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. There is no link between it and ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, often typed “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an app for Android TV with 10K+ installs. GoodShort is probably what most searchers mean.
Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same?
Very likely, though not confirmed. The legal entity behind ShortMax is SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong. Visitors to its website are redirected to ShortTV’s site. Both went live in September 2023. There is no official rename announcement that we found. Unrelated apps also appear when you search “short tv” or “short max”.
Are mod APKs and coin generators safe to use?
No, and not one is official. Mod APKs are altered copies of apps that come from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators are unofficial too. You cannot check what they do. Use official stores and websites only.
Why is ReelShort’s Trustpilot rating low?
On Trustpilot, ReelShort’s page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Charges after cancelling are a frequent complaint. Weekly auto-renewals are often mentioned. Other reviewers mention coin prices and refused refunds. What any review site reflects is the people who chose to post. Treat it as a checklist rather than a verdict.
